When the evening arrives but you’re not ready to call it a night, there’s only one solution: hang out where the elite hang out in the “city that never sleeps.” The nightlife in New York City’s is legendary. While there are plenty of bars, dens, lounges, clubs and saloons to get a piece of the action, you want to go where the ropes are tight, the VIPs lists have more than brides- or grooms-to-be, and the dress codes are strict. After all, you didn’t fly to NYC in your private jet for another ordinary experience.

Top of the Standard

Formerly the Boom Boom Room, the Top of the Standard in the Meatpacking District is one of the most exclusive, fiercely guarded nightclubs in the city. Getting in is a matter of having the right connections or celebrity status. Those who have the privilege of making it past the door staff have the pleasure of witnessing one of the most spectacular views of downtown, even from the restroom. When you arrive at the supper lounge, blaring elegance and a live jazz band will greet you. In addition to making reservations, be sure to dress the part: “The dress code is smart casual attire focusing on well-tailored and fitted clothing with the appropriate footwear.”

Electric Room

With a neon black-lit entrance that looks like it came out of Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void, the doors at the Electric Room in Chelsea open at 11:00 p.m. You’ll find it on the lower level of Dream Downtown. Run by proprietor Nur Khan, the rock-inspired ultra high-end club is the size of a small room, making it the perfect venue for exclusive after-parties. The intimate setting drips with sophistication coupled with retro-elegance and features art by Marilyn Minter, Sante D’Orazio, and Chris Stain. A hot spot among celebs, especially during Fashion Week, the Electric Room doesn’t have a dress code, but those with a polished fashion-forward look are more likely to get in.

If rock-n-roll and crowds aren’t your style, head to the nearby No. 8, which has a Cali-casual vibe.

Provocateur

An exclusive club in Alphabet City, the lavish Provocateur features a café and nightclub that’s open Thursday through Saturday. The guest list is full of connected, affluent, wealthy and well-dressed individuals who are ready to spend thousands on bottles without a second thought. Provocateur Café is great for meeting with friends while listening to alterno-pop music in the evening. The nightclub plays house music and often features the hottest DJs in the industry. You must be on the guest list to get into the club; table reservations are based on availability.

Death & Co.

An iconic NYC speakeasy, Death & Co. in the East Village is where you go when you want a carefully crafted cocktail. The lavish lair puts a creative spin on classic favorites and is known for launching the careers of the area’s most prominent bartenders. Patrons not only flock here for the strong, fragrant drinks and rare, aged liquors, the food is also fabulous. Cheese curds and truffle macaroni are top picks. Death & Co. does not take reservations; seating is first come, first served.
